Goal: The homeowner wanted to build a new ADU which would be connected to the existing detached garage.

Design Challenge: In order to meet the setback requirements, a corner of the garage required demolition so that the new ADU could provide enough space while meeting setbacks.

Process and Solution: The homeowner chose to demolish a small section of their existing garage to allow for more space in the ADU as well as to allow for a more regularly shaped unit. The final ADU included a large bedroom, a separate kitchen/living area with dining room, a bathroom with a shower, and a utility closet. A laundry facility was located within the garage and allowed for shared access.
