Goal: The property owner wanted to convert the existing garage into a livable ADU.

Design Challenge: The existing concrete driveway and patio made relocating the ADU impossible without significant demolition which would increase the cost of the project.


Process and Solution: The homeowner wanted to convert their existing 14’ by 30’ garage into a simple studio ADU. To bring more light into the unit, double glass doors and a single glass door were added.


The final unit included an ample sleeping/living area with an efficiency-kitchen and a bathroom, as well as a small storage space and a standing washer/dryer.

Using this model as the starting point, this project was customized to the owner's preferences and the conditions of the property.
